New pedestrian bridge

International design competition

A three dimensional curvature is proposed arching over the bridge path, entwining around the span and returning to the earth via the existing pathways. This central ribbon-arch pays homage to South Yorkshireís industrial past, acting as a cultural marker, whilst also creating a double threshold across the Trans Pennines Trail (TPT) and the A630. Those on the road view a striking iconic landmark, whilst patrons of the TPT enjoy a material journey and unique spatial experience.

Generous embankment areas on both sides of the bridge smoothly connect the path network and the surrounding landscape with the bridge, providing an economical and convenient transition to the bridge area.
