Green Nile

Regional development Plan

The development of Khartoum New Int’l Airport challenges the balance of the urban growth of the city of Khartoum and the entire KNIA Region. Dorsch International Consultants was commissioned to provide a coherent development strategy to explore and integrate the economic potential of the new airport at regional scale, the Khartoum Structure Plan.

leit-werk together with the Architectural Association developed the Green Nile concept, which creates a new centrality of formal and informal development along the new transport corridor between KNIA and Khartoum. Extensive research into the existing conditions of the economy and the built fabric prepared the basis for this innovative planning approach.

The Khartoum Structure Plan has outgrown the boundaries of the state of Khartoum becoming the first coordinated interstate planning project (ISPP) in Sudan including the White Nile State and North Kordofan.

      To whom it may concern,

we are writing as architecture students who are attending a M.Arch.of Architectural design at POLITECNICO of Milan, we are now conducting a research on urban development of the city of Khartoum in Sudan.

As we found your study on the Khartoum airport, we would be especially grateful in receiving your contribution as it is possible with any kind of material which could be helpful in our study (especially cartographical material, dwg’s or any kind of suggestions you can give us).

Thank you i advance and we hope to receive your reply,

      all our best,

      students of Arch. School POLITECNICO
