As part of the commission for key airport buildings for the Khartoum New International Airport the ATC tower represents the tallest structure. Its large distance to the public landside called for a bold volume to be recognised as an icon for the airport.
A folded volume merges the tower shaft with the cabin, which houses the ATC at its top level and apron control below. This was achieved by wrapping a second skin made of textile net around the straight vertical concrete creating this forward leaning dynamic image. Different daylight changes the appearance of the tower skin.
