Since 2003 leit-werk have supported Dorsch International Consultants in the development of Khartoum New Int’l Airport. In 2006 the design team completed the tender documentation of the key airport buildings and consulted the Project Implementation Unit of the Presidency of the Republic of the Sudan in the implementation of the Airport.
Since then leit-werk’s architects and construction experts have supported the client in identifying investors, operators and construction companies.
As first buildings the ATC tower, the main ARFF (Airport Rescue and Fire station) and its two sub stations and the Mechanical Maintenance building have been tendered and contractors defined.
Further services include the updating the masterplan, redeveloping the Passenger terminal to phasing scenarios and mplementing a nursery with 1m trees for the new airport.
In parallel a Green belt as established in the Khartoum Structure Plan (KSP) is going to be implemented by environmental experts to protect the airport from harsh climate. leit-werk contributes by moving focus onto the economic site of the project and establish a local micro economy connecting the Green belt to other aspects laid out in the KSP.
