The airport is the main entry gate to Bulgaria and the eastern gateway into the European Union. The airport’s gravity centre has shifted from Terminal 1 (domestic) to the other side of the airfield (Terminal 2, international). Expected growth of the international traffic requires additional terminal capacity and a rationalisation of the existing passenger flows matching international standards. The scope included immediate improvement and a long term solution for a new terminal including world-class commercial facilities.
