Broadwalk - Public realm

Re-developement of Barking’s Central Park, London
Competition entry, short listed second stage

Abbey Green, situated between important regeneration projects, has the potential of becoming the green heart of Barking, a bustling park with distinct urban qualities for everyone. The strategy of our proposal is based on the creation of a clear and flexible park framework. By adopting urban principles, contrasting spaces for different activities are generated emphasising the spatial variety of sequences within the existing park, its features and its history.

Three distinct character areas are suggested aiming to create or strengthen functional links, particularly re-connecting the river Roding with the town centre: Abbey Common with Broadwalk, Town Quay + Abbey Gate, Abbey Fields and Abbey Ruins.
